Mapping of villages almost complete ahead of census – UBOS

The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) is making significant progress in its census mapping efforts in preparation for the upcoming enumeration exercise scheduled for May next year.

Dr. Chris Mukiza, the executive director of UBOS, has reported that 87 percent of the mapping exercise, covering villages and households, has been successfully completed.

In anticipation of the enumeration exercise, UBOS is set to procure 120,000 tablets that will be instrumental in the data collection process. The census night is slated for May 9, 2024, with the official census commencing on May 10, 2024, and spanning a duration of 10 days.

Dr. Mukiza emphasized the importance of this undertaking, highlighting its role in guiding the country’s policy formulation and planning.

He expressed confidence in the progress made so far, affirming that the mapping of 87 percent of the country is a significant achievement in ensuring the success of the National Population and Housing Census.
